My write in vote for 2012

“There are no fixtures in nature. The universe is fluid and volatile: Permanence is but a word of degrees. Our culture is the predominance of an idea which draws after it all this train of cities and institutions. Let us rise into another idea: They will disappear… tumbling into the inevitable pit which the creation of new thought opens for all that is old.”
- From ‘Circles’ by Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Thought and reality have parted company. Reality has become opaque for the light of thought, and thought, no longer bound to incident as the circle remains bound to its focus, is liable either to become altogether meaningless or to rehash old verities which have lost all concrete relevance.”

- From ‘Between Past and Future’ by Arendt

Making it up in our Secret World.

“He who joins the resistance, finds himself. He ceases to be in quest of himself. Without mastery, in naked satisfaction. He no longer suspects himself of insincetiy, of being a carping, suspicious actor of life. He can afford to go naked. …In this nakedness, stripped of all masks — of those which society assigns to its members, as well as those which the individual fabricates for himself in his psychological reactions against society — they are visited for the first time in their lives by an apparition of freedom, not because they acted against tyranny and things worse than tyranny, but because they had become challengers, had taken the initiative upon themselves and began to create that public space between themselves where freedom could appear.”

From the ‘Between Past and Future’ by Hannah Arendt
